A Canadian View on Chronic Pain

My name is David Evans and I am a specialist in chronic pain in Toronto. I'm starting this blog to inform and educate professionals and patients about diagnosis and treatment and up-to-date information.

Hi my name is Blanche Klein. I suffer from chronic pain, chronic migraines and fibromyalgia, pain and spasms and numbness in my left wrist and left hand as a result of 3 work accidents that occurred over 2 years ago. I only have one claim though and have tried a cocktail of medications along with various tests performed. I would like to meet a chronic pain specialist in Toronto who can advise me if I am on the right medications. I have been assessed at the Healthy Recovery Clinic as I am to attend both an OHIP and non-OHIP pain management program. My doctor is in agreement to refer me to a pain doctor specialist as it will be some time before I begin this program. I was sent by WSIB to Toronto Western for their inappropriate functional restoration program which caused me additional problems i.e. going back on Tylenol 3, Ativan (3x a day instead of once a day) and other meds. I am taking a couple of antidepressents one of which we are trying to lower as it has caused me weight gain and no longer helps with pain. My dosage for Effexor is 225, Naprosen is 375 mg and Amitryptaline which we are lowering as a result of the weight gain is now down to 2 or 3 pills a day as opposed to 8 pills a day. Dr. Evans do you have a clinic where you work from.

Propoxyphene is habit forming. You can become physically and psychologically dependent on the medication. Do not take more than the prescribed amount of medication or take it for longer than is directed by your doctor.

If you are over 65 years of age, you may be more likely to experience side effects from Pentazocine/Naloxone. Your doctor may prescribe a lower dose of the medication.
